The High Court has issued interim orders stopping the Standard Media Group from publishing or further circulating allegations linking Charlene Ruto to a Sh2.8 billion tender for new Kenya Police Service uniforms. The orders were issued on Monday, September 14, at the Milimani Law Courts after Charlene moved to court over reports that connected her and her family to the procurement deal. Through her lawyers, she argued that the publications had damaged her reputation by suggesting she had improperly benefited from a public tender. The dispute followed a Standard report published on August 29 which claimed the contract had been awarded to Nalitex Limited and linked the company’s address to businesses associated with President William Ruto’s family. The report also alleged that Charlene had participated in or benefited from the deal. Police authorities, however, rejected the claims and stated that Nalitex Limited was neither involved in nor awarded the contract. The police said the company was non-existent and maintained that the procurement was conducted through competitive bidding and in accordance with the law. The court has directed the Standard to remove the disputed information online or publish a clear correction, while giving the media house seven days to file its formal response. The matter will return to court on October 19, 2026, when further directions are expected.
