Gor Mahia’s CAF Champions League campaign came to an end on Sunday after they suffered a 5-1 defeat to reigning African champions Pyramids FC in Cairo. Pyramids took control in the 27th minute when Walid El Karti opened the scoring with a header. Nasser Maher then doubled the advantage 10 minutes later before Youssef “Obama” Ibrahim added a third shortly before half-time. Gor Mahia managed to respond before the break through David Okello, who reduced the deficit to 3-1. The goal briefly raised hopes of a comeback, but Pyramids remained firmly in control as the second half began. Mostafa “Ziko” Abdel-Raouf restored Pyramids’ three-goal advantage after the restart before Mahmoud “Zalaka” Abdel-Hafiz completed the scoring. The Egyptian side had also won the first leg 2-0 at Nyayo National Stadium a week earlier. The result sent Pyramids through to the next stage with a 7-1 aggregate victory, while Gor Mahia were eliminated at the first-round stage. Pyramids, who won their maiden CAF Champions League title last season, will now continue their defence as Gor Mahia turn their attention back to domestic football.
